Soul's Crossover X Controls Guide

Combat in Soul’s Crossover X is real-time: you move, aim spells, manage cooldowns, and dodge telegraphed boss patterns. Poor control setup causes more early deaths than low level. Use this page alongside Getting Started and How to Beat Bosses so muscle memory matches the mechanics Noctyra designed.

Default PC controls

Roblox uses standard bindings unless the game overrides them in a settings panel:

Soul’s Crossover X maps tools (weapons) and spells to your hotbar. After you reforge at Frisk, the same slot still fires the spell — only stats change.

Mobile and tablet controls

On touch devices Roblox provides a virtual joystick (move), jump button, and action buttons. Tips for Soul’s Crossover X specifically:

• Enable shift-lock in Roblox settings so your character faces the boss while strafing.
• Drag spell buttons toward your dominant thumb; Hotland fights need fast swaps.
• Lower graphics if frame drops cause missed dodges — Undyne and Mettaton punish lag.
• Pinch to zoom camera out during large AoE phases.

Mobile players should read Enemy Drops for shorter farm routes; long sessions drain battery when graphics are maxed.

Gamepad support

If Roblox detects a controller, movement uses the left stick, camera the right, and face buttons map to jump and tool use. Rebind in Roblox → Settings → Gamepad when possible. Gamepad excels in Snowdin and Judgement Hall where movement-heavy dodging matters more than precise mouse aim.

Combat fundamentals

Understanding these systems prevents blaming controls when the issue is timing:

1. Spells vs tools — Spells consume mana (or equivalent resource shown on HUD). Tools often have shorter cooldown melee patterns. Your soul may passively regen mana or boost spell damage.
2. Cooldown management — Boss guides assume you rotate two spells. Empty the burst spell during safe windows; keep a defensive or mobility spell for telegraphed slam phases.
3. Dodging — Many attacks show ground markers or animation wind-ups. Sidestep instead of backing up — backward movement is slower and corner traps happen in arena fights.
4. Potions and consumables — Stock before bosses listed in How to Beat Bosses. Using a potion mid-combo is valid; dying with potions in inventory is not.

Menu and UI navigation

• Inventory — Equip souls, armor, and titles. Crafted souls apply here after Sans forging.
• Quest log — Tracks Snowdin → Hotland progression and crossover unlock hints.
• Stats panel — Shows level, Gold, Gems, and sometimes reset count. Reset count gates Underswap and DBZ.
• Teleport / zone portals — Found in lobby and hub areas; see Map for portal locations.

Settings worth changing

• Graphics quality — Lower for crowded DBZ farms (Son Koku routes) to keep INP stable.
• Mouse sensitivity — Raise slightly for Mettaton EX laser patterns if you play on PC.
• Music volume — Boss audio cues sometimes telegraph phase shifts; do not mute entirely.

Common mistakes

• Locked camera — Without shift-lock, spells fire the wrong direction.
• Full hotbar clutter — Remove unused pickaxes during boss attempts.
• Ignoring enchant vs reforge — Chara enchant and Frisk reforge stack; learn both menus.
• Reset confusion — Reset is a lobby room interaction, not a keybind. See How to Reset.

Practice drill (5 minutes)

In Snowdin safe zone: equip main spell, shift-lock on, circle strafe a mob while firing, swap to secondary spell on cooldown, jump over a ground line attack. Repeat until no HP lost. Then attempt Toriel with the same setup.
